About Guidepost

Guidepost was set up by to communicate the positive experiences we have had teaching, leading researching and publishing over the last 20 years. Both of us love being teachers, and we love being in education. It is the constant flow and uptake of knowledge by children and those adults who work with them that fascinates us and inspires us. We have worked hard to identify the best practice in the places where we work, and we have had considerable success in making that practice accessible to others. We teach about teaching, and we learn about learning. This website should contain enough resources to give you a boost, if that is what you need. Please feel that you can call us, and we can work together on any of the programmes outlined above…

Toby Quibell, PhD, DipPsy, DipDth, PGCE, BA(Hons). Visiting Fellow, University of Newcastle, Director, The Learning Challenge. I have worked as a teacher and academic since I qualified in 1991. I have a special knack with the children viewed as disruptive by schools, and my research interest in psychology is all to do with the things that re-engage children with their learning. I have taught on programmes at Northumbria and Newcastle and am constantly amazed by the load that teachers and especially headteachers bear, but despite that I am equally amazed by the successes that they constantly demonstrate.

Nick Blackburn, NPQH, Bed. Headteacher Heathfield Primary School, Darlington. I have worked in London and in Darlington schools and I have never stopped being impressed by staff going the extra mile to take on learning for the sake of children in their class. Of course it does not happen all the time, and my time in school as leader and teacher has been about finding out what does make a difference to staff motivation and development.
